"My favorite part were the people"

February 2023

Luka: “Participating in the TTLs was one of my highlights of 2022. In my work as a diversity trainer and educator, I’m always looking for new ways to make the topics accessible to people. As a drag performer, I love everything to do with trying on different roles and playing make-believe, so eduLARP seemed like it would be right up my alley. And turns out it is! Initially, I was worried that my lack of knowledge about eduLARP would mean that I wouldn’t be able to follow the workshops, but because they touched on so many different aspects and were very focused on practical exercises and trying out different games, I feel like I got a great overview of where to continue my education and what to watch out for.

I also really appreciated the approach of learning from and with each other, especially because everyone brought such different perspectives to the table. Talking to everyone and hearing about their experiences made me feel less intimidated by the idea of facilitating a LARP myself, and while I haven’t had the chance to do it yet, I’ve been able to incorporate a lot of what I learned into other exercises, especially warm-ups and safety techniques. I’ve also become mildly obsessed with newspaper theater. In the end, I think my favorite part of the TTLs were the people – being able to create a space together that felt safe, educational and fun all at the same time reminded me of how much we can achieve when everyone is willing to participate, communicate and maybe take some steps out of their comfort zones”.
